Worlds Apart 25:30
I Twilight, the lamplight shines, But my reflection is not kind, Shadows fall between the lines, You etched upon my face. Floating just beneath the waves, Waiting for your light to fade, Pulses come and go, Between distortion and decay. Easy come and easy go, I slip into the tide, A silhouette appears before my unexpecting eyes. This world is mine and mine alone, I start to realise. And you return to me again, In a watercolour landscape of our lives. I found a place where we can hide away, A place untouched by time and tragedy, Higher than the skies above, We dance inside our sanctuary. And it feels like, The first time, All over again, We’ll go back to the beginning, Where I'll never see the end. I watched it, I felt it all and it brought me to my knees. But I feel it, When I touch your skin, And it's all so real I can't believe, This vision of love is a demon inside, And I can't even tell if you're with me or if you're a dream. But I'll be fine, (And I’ll walk with you into eternity) I'll float with you forever, (Inside a perfect circle in time) (As the clouds in the heavens) As time Stands so (Stand so) Still. But I struggle to hold onto heaven, As the sun disappears from the sky. And the mountains will crumble, And the oceans will boil, As my world dissolves before my waking eyes. II I slip into a ruined world, Where faded colours run. There's no room left in this graveyard, There's no light left in the sun. A Thunderstorm is stirring, It gets closer every day. A fire on the horizon, Of distortion and decay. There's a crack in the ground, That runs to the sky, And the clouds are a chemical haze. The caustic burn of the once blue sea, Has swept the air away. You're toxic when you touch my skin, Corrosive when I breathe you in, And there's no escape from this world I've created inside. Everytime I leave, I can't take you with me, Every day I wake, I die another death. Deep inside my mind, There's a voice that I just cannot take anymore. And I'm screaming, Reaching out for your hand. It's bleeding, A dying wonderland. I lost my way, Lost my sight, Lost my mind. Broken and bleeding, Mad and blind. I lost my way, Lost my sight, Lost my mind. Broken and bleeding, Mad and blind. I can't sleep, I can't even tell if I'm dreaming anymore. I can't sleep, The world around me is so different than before. I can't sleep, The hours pass so slowly. I wonder, Would it be easier to stay awake? The sound of birdsong is calling me back to reality. III Angel, Where was everything we painted? What happened to the sacred? The sanctuary we found. Angel, When we walk upon the wasteland, It’s like we're fighting against quicksand, And trying not to drown. Angel, We've been travelling forever, You were supposed to be my saviour, Before your wings were bound. Angel, It feels like we're falling through heaven, A million miles a second, Towards the ground. Angel, Where did it all go wrong? When did we forget our song? Why can't I hear a sound? Angel, We lost our way, And ran to the ends of the earth to escape. You can run, you can hide, But the bullet's gonna find you someday. You could change, You could change my world. You could change, You could change my world. I wish that I could give my life to save her, But I'm condemned to watch her wither, And lose her colour like a flower in the winter, A living nightmare which I can't help but remember. We talked about eternity when we were seventeen, I don't have the words in mind to tell you what it means. To raise myself above it all and fall down to my knees, In loneliness and desperation pleading for release. Who were you to fall again? You walked into my wonderland, And I screamed at the top of my lungs that I don't understand. IV The pendulum will cease to swing, The operatic voices sing. The hands of time will not turn back, So spread your wings and paint them black. We go waltzing into darkness, To the hypnotising truth, That everything we were became A phase we once went through. Because after all, They’re only dreams. After all, It's only dreams. Will we never see eye to eye? Will we never touch heart to heart? Is it so easy to see that we're so different? Will we always be worlds apart?

about

Memnor's first release, which came in 2013, was written and recorded by Rob Rideout as a university project.

The song was an experiment in long-form songwriting, and an attempt to recreate the magic of tracks such as Dream Theater's "A Change of Seasons", Frost*'s "Milliontown", and Magenta's "The Ballad of Samuel Layne".

The song details the plight of a protagonist who loses a loved one, and looks inwards to see them in lucid dreams, ultimately battling with a second loss when they realise that they must come to terms with letting go.

This track is considered a demo, and is not available on mainstream streaming platforms, because it does not conform to the high standard of production that the band now prides itself on. Maybe one day it will be remastered, but until then it is available only to stream on Soundcloud, Bandcamp, and at our official website at Memnor.com

about

Memnor UK

Memnor are a UK based modern prog metal collective inspired by the genre-redefining sounds of Frost*, Haken, and The Algorithm.

Incorporating the jagged sound design of electronic music with crushing rhythms and riffs likened to Meshuggah, Tigran Hamassyan, and Tool, they have created a unique fusion that lies somewhere between technical metal, complex jazz, and epic prog rock.
